My Weaponised Body
Wynnie Mynerva
4 Oct – 9 Nov 2024

5 Warwick Street London

Gathering London is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Wynnie Mynerva (b. 1993, Lima, Peru; they/them), on view from 4 October - 9 November 2024. Encompassing installation, sculpture and painting, the artist’s second exhibition with the gallery reconsiders established narratives around the body and chronic illness.

In these new works, illness is not framed as an invading pathogen but as a complex ecosystem, both distinct to the individual and intertwined with the wider cosmos. As such, Mynerva transforms the gallery space into a dim environment that mirrors the human body’s interior. At the centre of the exhibition space, a skeletal sculpture punctures the floor between the upper and lower galleries, much like a spinal cord. The sculpture is surrounded by new paintings and a skin-like installation that drapes through the space, evoking melothesia – an ancient branch of medical astrology linking body parts and diseases to celestial objects to examine the cosmic origins of illness.
