Oda Iselin Sønderland
Sønderland (b. 1996) is a Norwegian-Irish artist exploring psychological states and the fluid boundary between the subconscious and conscious. Through figurative watercolour paintings and woodcarvings, she evokes the mysterious and transcendental, drawing from personal visions that hover between reality and hallucination. Her imagery, often dreamlike and elusive, reflects an affinity with the Symbolist movement while weaving influences from thriller cinema, and esoteric mysticism. Layers of delicate detail and sprawling fronds create a hypnotic intensity, inviting viewers into realms where perception flickers and meaning remains just out of reach.
Sønderland’s recent solo exhibitions includeElsker(2024) with Nevven Gallery in Bologna, Breaking the Waves (2023) with Galerie Pangée, in Montreal, Krokus (2022) with Nevven Gallery in Gothenburg and Magical Girl (2019) with Gallery Golsa in Oslo.
